(Wen Tse Chou)
Chinese Enrichment Teacher
Taipei European School
(Master of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language)。

My name is Wen-Tse Chou. I was born and raised in Taiwan. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia. I have been working in international schools for more than ten years. I noticed the uniqueness of Chinese learning in international schools. Hence, I finished my continuous education and received my master’s degree in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language.
This year is my 3rd year teaching 4-5 year-old Chinese at Taipei European School. I have worked on integrating children’s development with Chinese learning and created an environment for children to flourish naturally in both Chinese and English. It is not only continually developing children’s listening and expressive speaking skills in Chinese but also setting up a solid foundation for learning the second language.
The challenge of bilingual-home language Chinese vs. international curriculum English

The common challenge in international schools is simultanous bilingual or multilingual learning. In the multilingual environment, we also face the challenge of working as a team with other teachers, integrating Chinese learning into the international curriculum, and customizing the teaching resources. It is essential to develop children’s expressive language skills in daily life with the vast growth of technology and the fast pace of life. I am excited and hoping to share ideas and learning from everyone through the Early Years Exchange.
